Resignation Letters

What is a resignation letter?

A formal letter given to your your one-up manager when you wish to cease work with your current employer.

Commonly a resignation letter will also explain briefly your future plans and what date you plan terminate your employment officially.

Resignation letter do's and don'ts

Do's

Don'ts

  • Do give at least between 2 and 4 weeks notice. Confirm with your one up manager what minimum is required.
  • Do always advised your one up manager before telling other colleges.
  • Do ask someone to proofread your resignation letter.
  • Do use a sans serif font in size 10-12.
  • Do write to leave on good terms and express your thanks.
  • Do sign the letter personally. Consider blue ink.
  • Don't go beyond one page
  • Don't write anything that my be perceived as negative.
